Lower means smaller files but softer detail. 70–80% is usually the sweet spot.
Height follows automatically to keep the aspect ratio. Images are never enlarged.
Useful when a form or a mail server caps the file size. The best quality that still fits the limit is found automatically. (Not available for PNG.)

Why compress locally

Photos carry more than pixels. A picture straight off a phone usually contains EXIF metadata — the exact GPS coordinates where it was taken, the device, the timestamp. Uploading a batch of holiday or property photos to a compression site hands all of that to a third party. Compressing in the browser keeps the file on your machine, and because the image is redrawn onto a canvas the location metadata is dropped from the output as a side effect.

Frequently asked questions

Does saving several images download them one at a time?

No. They are bundled into a single ZIP file by default. Untick the box under "Save all" if you would rather have separate files — but then the browser asks for confirmation each time, and phones often keep only the first image.

Can I paste a screenshot instead of saving it first?

Yes. Copy or capture the image, then press Ctrl+V (⌘+V on a Mac) anywhere on this page and it goes straight in.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser. Load the page, go offline, and it still works.

What quality setting should I use?

70–80% is usually indistinguishable from the original while roughly halving the file size. For print, stay above 90%.

I chose PNG and the file got bigger.

PNG is lossless, which is inefficient for photographs. For photos, choose JPG or WebP instead.

My transparent background turned white.

JPG does not support transparency, so it is filled with white. Choose PNG or WebP to keep it.

How many images can I do at once?

There is no fixed limit, but since this uses your device's memory, batches of a few dozen at a time are more comfortable.
