Random name picker & team generator

Paste a list to draw winners, shuffle a running order or split people into teams. Results come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator.

🔒 Your list is never sent anywhere

Need to share the result as a scannable link? QR code makes one without a watermark. To turn a spreadsheet of entries into a clean list first, Convert file reads Excel and CSV.

How the draw is kept fair

Most pickers use Math.random(), which is fast but predictable and not meant for anything that has to be fair. This page uses the browser's cryptographic generator (crypto.getRandomValues). It also removes modulo bias: taking a random number "mod" the list length makes the first names very slightly more likely, so values that fall in the uneven tail are thrown away and drawn again. Shuffling uses the Fisher–Yates method, so every possible order is equally likely. And because nothing runs on a server, a list of customer emails or employee names never leaves your device.

Common uses

Giveaways — paste the entrants from comments and draw as many winners as you have prizes.
Presentation or interview order — shuffle everyone and post the list as-is.
Classroom and workshop groups — split people into evenly sized teams.
Chores and rotas — settle who goes first without arguing about it.

Frequently asked questions

Is my list sent to a server?

No. The list and the result exist only in your browser — the page works with the internet switched off. Nothing is stored on your device either, so reloading clears it.

Is it really fair?

It uses the browser's cryptographic random number generator and removes the bias that plain remainder arithmetic introduces. For a public draw, though, the most convincing approach is to share your screen, paste the list and draw live — any tool that only shows a final result is hard for participants to trust.

Can the same person win twice?

Tick "Allow the same person to be drawn more than once". That is for running separate draws over the whole list, such as first, second and third prize. Leave it off and nobody is drawn twice.

How do I pair people with tasks or gifts?

Use "Shuffle the order". Put one list in, shuffle it, and match the result line by line against the other list. A randomly shuffled order is exactly as fair as any visual "spin the wheel" — it just skips the animation.

What about blank lines and duplicate names?

Blank lines are ignored. A name that appears twice is treated as two separate entrants (they may be two different people), and the number of repeats is shown under the list so you can fix it if it was a mistake.

Can I paste from Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes. Copy a single column and paste it — one cell becomes one line. Copying several columns gives tab-separated lines, so pick just the column with the names.
